New Young Pony Club
Fantastic Playroom Album Launch
Review By Zarina Raja
Oxford Street's Virgin Mega store was heaving with funky looking girls and ridiculously indie looking boys, all ready for a dose of New Young Pony Club. It seemed a bit odd to be that dressed up at 5.30pm on a Tuesday night but hey

As soon as NYPC took to the stage, the atmosphere soared from a tired murmur of after work fans to heated anticipation. Lead singer, Tahitia Bulmer, swaggered to the front of the stage, making a quick quip about how good it was to be playing indoors as opposed to a flooded field, and then launched in to the first track.
The band needed no time to warm up, they jammed and synthed vigorously, while Tahita danced and strutted round the stage, unleashing her seductive drawl into the bopping crowd.
Ice Cream, The Bomb and Hiding On The Staircase went down exceptionally well. The crowd moved with the funky bass lines, drum machine time beats and overtly sexy vibe, most prominent in Ice Cream with its lyrics drink me like a liquor, come on and dip your dipper.
A live viewing of NYPC really accentuated how good they actually are. Certain parts that blend in on the album really jutted out though certain songs on stage, maximising NYPC's ability to produce a raw, but refined, record.

The Rabbi
I saw this band for the first time last night at a friends club at the top of tottenham court road, (The Metro), the club was like the old pics of the cavern in liverpool except that instead of it being a curved ceilinged smoke filled pit of noise, this place was a vibrant red walled venue where you could see what you'd gone to see with ease, small rectangular and comfortable, it suited the band, and the band suited it, the accoustics were great, and the crowd were bopping and dancing as if enjoying yourself was about to be made illegal.
I arrived late, (I got lost!!!), the 'NYPC' must have been onstage for sometime, but that did'nt matter, as I caught some of the best live music that I'd seen for ages, they jamed through 5-6 numbers and yep they rocked, it was like something from days gone by, a cross between a sex pistol concert, and a swaith of hands shouting 'Leader Leader', at an old gary glitter concert from years ago.
I've read the backgroung to this band, and they're something of a mystery, but, that only reminds me of a certain performer who many years ago kicked off in the same manner, I'm not saying that this band will last forever, but, my guess is that a huge following is about to take place in the comming month's as they are that good.
That unmentioned performer!, oh he's short, energetic, wears high heels and speaks his mind, and is not everybodys cup of tea untill you've actually seen him play live, his name!, 'Prince', now nope, the 'NYPC', dont sound anything like him or his band, but, if you take it like this, last night was a freebie, 'would I pay to see the NYPC', its a forgone conclusion, most definately 'yes', they really were that good.
